Here is the last picture I took of the 36 plant vegetable planter.

I learned a couple things from this project.

First: These 36 large size peat pellets soak up alot of water and get very heavy.

These black plastic trays are not very thick or strong. It is difficult to move them

once they are full without twisting them. It helps to put a board underneath them

to support them.

Second: Additives like superthrive, liquid fertilizer and hydrogen peroxide

might not do any good that I can prove, but they don’t hurt anything.

I took an air and soil temperature reading and it looks like the air temperature is 88F.

The digital thermometer gave a soil temperature of 97.7F about two inches down.

I think the difference in temperature is because the white face of the taylor thermometer

reflects heat and light but the black soil absorbs it. The humidity was over 50 percent

before I took the clear plastic greenhouse lid off and there is water condensing on the lid like it should.

The instructions seedrack.com sent me say these seeds germinate in 6 weeks to 6 months.

with the temperature at 75F. They also say giving them bottom heat can help. I don’t have

one of those electric heating pads you can put under your seed starter planter to warm them up

At least not yet, but it’s on my shopping list. Anyway, with these mini greenhouse dome lids on

the seeds are being kept plenty warm enough. I am pleasantly surprised by how well it is working out.

OK. Let’s plant some coffee bean seeds

Now I am going to cover them up with half an inch more of the

miracle gro seed starting potting mix as the instructions call for.

I have decided to add 1ml of superthrive and 2 tablespoons of hydrogen peroxide to a

gallon of purified water to water them with.

Finally, I snap the clear plastic greenhouse dome lids back on and put the 75 watt incandescent

light bulb over them. Note the thermometer inside. I want to see the temperature up over 90F.

And there you go folks! What do you think? Will they grow?

The coffee bean seeds have been soaking for three full days now.

The water temperature has been well over 90F the whole time.

I think they are ready for planting.

As you can see I have drilled 5 holes in the bottom of these plastic folgers coffee cans.

Good drainage is always a must so I am go to put in some lava rocks.

Now I am going to add a good thick layer of perlite.

Finally, here is the miracle gro seed starting potting mix. It’s nice and fluffy.

You may notice I have three different blends of folgers coffee here.

Good, that will make it easy to keep track of the three different kinds of coffee beans seeds.

The house blend can gets the Coffea arabica – Coffee Plant seed

The custom roast can gets the Coffea catura – Dwarf Coffee Plant seed

The gourmet supreme can gets the Coffea kona – Kona Coffee Plant seed
