The instructions that came with the Carnivorous Creations kit said the pitcher plants

seeds in seeds packet 2 require stratification for 6 weeks. I gave them a teaspoon of purified

water as directed and put them in the refrigerator six weeks ago. They are now ready for planting.

The following are included in seeds packet 2:

Sarracenia alata – Pale Pitcher Plant seeds

Sarracenia flava – Yellow Trumpet Pitcher Plant seeds

Sarracenia leucopphylla – White Topped Pitcher Plant seeds

Sarracenia minor – Hooded Pitcher Plant seeds

Sarracenia psittacina – Parrot Pitcher Plant seeds

Sarracenia purpurea-venosa – Purple Pitcher Plant seeds

Sarracenia rubra-wherryi – Sweet Pitcher Plant seeds

Once again I am not planting them in the mini greenhouse that came with the kit.

I am putting them in with Sarah The Sundew and Vanessa The Venus Flytrap.

I figure there is still plenty of room in my homemade 20 inch terrarium.

You might notice I have scrapped away the red moss and green moss that was

growing on the surface with an old spoon.

I am now going to spoon in the pitcher plants seed mix

little by little all around the outside.

I’ve got them watered now with purified water with superthrive and hydrogen peroxide

but no fertilizer.

Here is the whole thing is with the thermometer and humidity gauge inside and

the clear plastic sheet on top. I have a pair of 65 watt clf on them.

I have decided to leave it turned around this way so I can get a better view of

Vanessa The Venus Flytrap. I am not sure how long it will take for the carnivorous

pitcher plants to germinate and sprout.

Here are a couple of shots of Vanessa The Venus Flytrap from a new angle.

This was taken just before I scrapped away the top layer of red moss and green moss

in preparation for planting the pitcher plants in seeds pack 2.

The red moss and green moss is normal for this type of environment but I want to keep it under control.

I think the presence of the red and green moss indicates that I am getting the right climate.

The 3 Desmodium gyrans – Telegraph Plant seeds have now soaked in warm water for 12 hours.

So now I’m going to plant them along the lower left.

The 3 Mimosa pudica – Sensitive Plant seeds need to soak in hot water for 1/2 hour.

I warmed up the water in the red plastic dish by zapping it in the microwave for a few seconds

and then put the seeds in.

Ok. It has been 1/2 hour so let’s get the Sensitive Plant seeds planted in the upper left.

The 4 Dionaea muscipula – Venus Fly Trap seeds do not need to be soaked and you are not supposed to bury them.

Instead just lay them on the surface and spray them with a little water. I planted them on the right.

As usual, I covered up the greenhouse and put an incandescent light bulb on them to keep them warm.

Note: I did not add any fertilizer to the purified water I used, but I did add

superthrive and hydrogen peroxide. Be advised, fertilizer will kill Venus Fly Traps.

Now I wait and see if any of the seeds germinate and sprout.
