OK. Let’s plant some coffee bean seeds

First, here goes the Coffea arabica – Coffee Plant seed in the house blend can.

Second, here goes the Coffea catura – Dwarf Coffee Plant seed in the custom roast can.

Third, here goes the Coffea kona – Kona Coffee Plant in the gourmet supreme can.

Now I am going to cover them up with half an inch more of the

miracle gro seed starting potting mix as the instructions call for.

I have decided to add 1ml of superthrive and 2 tablespoons of hydrogen peroxide to a

gallon of purified water to water them with.

Finally, I snap the clear plastic greenhouse dome lids back on and put the 75 watt incandescent

light bulb over them. Note the thermometer inside. I want to see the temperature up over 90F.

And there you go folks! What do you think? Will they grow?


The coffee bean seeds have been soaking for three full days now.

The water temperature has been well over 90F the whole time.

I have a variety of thermometers as you can see.

What do you think? Is that too hot?

I say, what the hell, give them some heat.

These black plastic lids are working well. They fit tight and trap the water in preventing it from evaporating.

The instructions for germinating coffee bean seeds call for soaking them for 2 – 3 days in warm water.

I am going to start with three different seeds so I will need three containers to put them in

so I do not get them mixed up. The clear plastic dome lids will work by turning them upside down.

I warmed up some purified water by zapping it in the microwave for a few seconds and took it’s temperature. 93.5F


Here’s the Coffea arabica – Coffee Plant Seed – I marked the lid with an A for arabica and covered it with water.

Here’s the Coffea catura – Dwarf Coffee Plant Seed – I marked the lid with a D for dwarf and covered it with water.

Here’s the Coffea kona – Kona Coffee Plant Seed – I marked the lid with a K for kona and covered it with water.

Now I going to cover the clear dome lids with the regular black plastic lids.

They fit just fine.

I have now put one of my 75 watt incandescent light bulbs over them.

The black plastic lids will absorb the light and heat from the bulb keeping the water and the seeds warm.

I am now going to let them soak for three days.
